Microsoft working on a foldable Surface phone, LG to supply the displays

The so-called "Andromeda" project has been popping up in the news since last year but information is rather scarce. Now, a leaked email along with some new APIs found in Windows 10's latest preview gives us a bit more to speculate about. The Andromeda Surface Phone isn't going to be just a "phone." It's going to be a "pocketable device" following the steps of Microsoft's successful Surface line of laptops with flexible hinges. It aims to be in a class of its own due to its unique form factor and yes, we are talking about a foldable handset. The API allows applications to adjust...

LG V30 to go on sale on September 15 in Korea, US gets it on the 28th

The LG V30 is the second most highly anticipated phablet to be announced this fall (it's safe to say that the Note8 wins that title), and it's set for an August 31 unveiling at IFA in Berlin - 8 days after its Samsung archrival has gone official. It has now been revealed that the V30 will go on sale in its home country on September 15. In the US, the V30 will go on pre-order on September 17, while you'll be able to pick one up in a store starting September 28th. The current V20 will likely lend its dual camera setup to the V30. The info comes courtesy of an internal LG...

WSJ: the TrueDepth camera on the iPhone X is causing the supply issues

We've been hearing that the iPhone X will face component shortages since the new flagship was merely a rumor. Now The Wall Street Journal quotes multiple sources who say that the TrueDepth camera is what keeps production slow. Two components - nicknamed Romeo and Juliet - work in tandem to enable the FaceID / animoji magic. However, the Romeo modules are harder to manufacture and take more time compared to the Juliet module. The sources did not name the function of Romeo, but it appears that this component is the true roadblock (and not the AMOLED screen as speculated...

HTC Ocean Harmony gets 3C certification

Several months ago we reported that HTC is planning to launch three more phones by the end of 2017. We already saw the U11+ and the U11 Life, so now it's time for the last one, codenamed HTC Ocean Harmony. The device was listed by CCC, meaning that at this point a launch is inevitable. According to the listed specs, the chipset will be Snapdragon 652, coupled with 4 gigs of RAM and 64 GB storage. The phone, codenamed HTC 2Q4R400, is expected to have 5.99" bezel-less screen like the one in HTC U11+. This looks like a toned down device and most likely will be a budget option of the...

Nokia 8.1 promo video leaks ahead of the official unveiling

HMD Global's event in Dubai on December 5 is expected to be the launchpad for up to three smartphones, including the Nokia 8.1 - for a while this has been rumored to be nothing but a rebranded international version of the Nokia X7 that has been available in China since October. And now, mere hours before said event, a promo video for the Nokia 8.1 has been outed, which intriguingly shows us a much larger notch than the Nokia X7's. The phones could still be identical on the inside, though, with only that visible differentiating feature. As you can see, the video emphasizes the...
