Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 visits Geekbench with Snapdragon 617

Xiaomi has always offered great bang for the buck, so it’s exciting to see hints of the Redmi Note 5, which combines two current flagship trends – 18:9 bezel-less screen and dual cameras. Better yet, rumors hint at a Snapdragon 660 chipset – a “lite” version of the flagship 835 SoC.

A Geekbench 4 result potentially sours the inflow of rumors – it lists a Qualcomm MSM8952 chipset, aka Snapdragon 617. Well, eight Cortex-A53 cores at a low clock speed are no match for eight Kryo cores. Not to mention the aging GPU…

There’s hope, however, it seems that Geekbench messed up the chipset…
