The Nokia 6.1 Plus loses notch toggle because of Google

As most of you know, the Nokia X6 stepped outside of China as the Nokia 6.1 Plus with stock Android 8.1 Oreo running out of the box and it was the first HMD Global smartphone with a notch. Some could live with the notched look, but most chose to save themselves the eyesore and used the option that lets you hide it. Unfortunately, the latest August security patch removed the toggle. Of course, that sparked the customer's dissatisfaction in the Nokia forums and a staff member said that Google forced them to do so without giving any further explanation. We can only assume why Google...

iPhone 7 regular and Pro are this year successors

There was some uncertainty whether Apple will release three iPhone 7 models - regular iPhone 7, a bigger Plus and the iPhone Pro with dual-cameras. Well, we may only be getting two models, regardless of whether the big one is called Plus or Pro. The two models are allegedly codenamed Sonora and Dos Palos, two towns in California that are nowhere near each other (or Cupertino). If you believe in conspiracy theories, "Dos Palos" is Spanish for "two sticks." What does that say about iPhone Pros dual cameras? (more…)

Google Play Services now boasts 5 billion installs

Google Play Services come pre-installed on just about every Android phone (well, except those sold in China). They are an essential mix of high and low-level stuff, everything from contact syncing to geo-positioning goes through these Services. Play Services became the first mobile "app" (if you can call them that) to reach 5 billion installs. That's 5 with nine zeroes. Granted, a good chunk of those are probably on devices no longer used, but as we said, there are also Androids not included in this count. Whichever way you look at it, it is an impressive number. And in a sense,...

Meizu E3 announcement pushed back to March 21

Meizu has been keeping a surprisingly low profile lately. The M6s was the first to interrupt a rather worrying announcement dry spell for the Chinese manufacturer. That being said, at lot seems to be brewing in Meizu's labs, like the 15 Plus, the X2, as well as the the E3, which was expected to debut today. Sadly, that didn't come to pass and today's event merely contained a few new teasers for the upcoming phablet. While we can only speculate as to why the company is postponing the launch we can confidently say that the Meizu E3 will be unveiled on March 21. Thanks to a few...

Alleged specs suggest the Sony Xperia XZ3 will use XZ2 Premium’s dual camera

A new leak disputes an earlier one that claimed the Sony Xperia XZ3 will have a single 48MP camera. Instead, it will use the same dual camera module as the XZ2 Premium. That's a 19MP module with f/1.8 aperture and a 12MP module with f/1.6 aperture. There's no zoom here, the fields of view are just too similar - 25mm and 22mm respectively. The 13MP selfie camera (f/2.0) sounds like it was lifted off the Premium model too. This isn't a Premium model, however. The screen is listed as 5.7" 1,080 x 2,160px, same as the XZ2. And it will use the Snapdragon 845 chipset, making this a mid-season...
