Meizu M6T Geekbench outing reveals Spreadtrum SoC

Meizu's upcoming M6T smartphone has been spotted in the Geekbench database. The listing for the device reveals a Spreadtrum SC9850 SoC, Android 7.1.1 OS, and 2GB RAM. Curiously, the SC9850 comes with a 1.3GHz quad-core CPU, which contradicts the handset's TENNA outing - that one mentioned an octa-core 1.5GHz processor. It could be an error by the benchmarking software failing to properly recognize the chipset or we could see two different versions of the handset. Other rumored specs for M6T include 5.7-inch display, 2GB/3GB/4GB RAM and 16GB/32GB/64GB storage options, 8MP selfie...

Google Photos will save you data by caching videos you’ve watched

The latest update to the Google Photos app brings 'performance improvements' - show us an update changelog that doesn't say that. This one, however, adds a neat feature - Photos will now cache videos you watch so you can replay them later without using up your data allowance. Since these videos need to be saved somewhere, they'll eat up into your storage, but storage is cheap and data traffic isn't. Also, clearing your cache doesn't seem like that much hard work, should you need to free up space. Now, having a toggle to enable/disable the caching could have been even better, but no, not...

HTC free fall continues in January, revenue hits six-month low

HTC published its financial results for January, and they do not look promising. Compared with December 2017, revenue sank 15.3%, while the fall on a yearly basis was even bigger - 27%. The consolidated income of NT$3.403 billion (or $116.12 million) marked a six-month low for the Taiwanese company. HTC's golden hen - Google Pixel 2 Analysts say lowered Pixel 2 sales and HTC U11 Eyes launch mid-January hurt the sales performance. In February, Vive Pro and the standalone headset Vive Focus VR will be available, but because of reduced work days during Lunar New Year, sales are...

Google announces new Wear OS update with improved battery saver mode

Today Google has announced yet another update for Wear OS (formerly known as Android Wear). It's calling it "H Update" although once you get it your watch won't display that, instead just telling you it's running Wear OS 2.2. It's unclear why this confusing naming was needed, but it is so nevertheless. Anyway, the new software packs a new Battery Saver Mode that will automatically turn on and only display the time once the level falls below 10%. This should further improve battery life, of course. When you're not wearing it, your watch will go into deep sleep mode after 30 minutes...
