Mediatek and TSMC to produce 7nm chipsets

MediaTek announced the Helio X30 last summer and we are expecting the first phones with it to come in Q2 2017. Now we hear the Chinese is planning a major jump forward with its next SoC. The new chipset will be made on a 7nm process and will have 12 cores, sources report. The report says that Mediatek and TSMC are working together in bringing an even more efficient chipset to life. The 7nm SoC will have 12 cores, up from 10 in the Helio X30. Despite experiencing unsatisfactory yield rates for TSMC's 10nm process, Mediatek will keep working together with the Taiwan company for its...

Google Play Music All Access now available in India

Google has launched the Google Play Music ‘All Access' service in India. Although the ability to purchase music was launched in September last year, the All Access streaming service was not available until now. Being late to the market that is already saturated with services like Apple Music, Saavn, Gaana, Airtel Wynk and more, Google decided to go aggressive with the pricing, which is one of the lowest of all the services available in India, at INR 89 per month, which is about $1.3. You also get the 30-days free, however, we have seen some accounts get only 14-days and we are not...

Facebook F8: typing with brainwaves and 360° cameras

When touchscreen keyboards started taking over from their hardware counterparts, we railed against the lack of tactility. What if you didn't need to touch anything to type - not keys, not even a screen? Facebook is on it with a project that will translate your thoughts straight into text. "Silent speech" (as Facebook calls it) will allow you to type 100 words a minute. Note that an average professional typist manages 50-80 words per minute, the best get above 120wpm. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to start small, though. Before typing, something as simple as answering yes/no queries...

Weekly poll results: LG G7 gets the fans’ nod

LG's latest G7 ThinQ flagship is enjoying a warm reception as evidenced by our weekly poll. Despite coming to the market later than its Samsung and Huawei rivals, 3 out of every five readers believes it offers enough to justify the delay. Anyway, the G7 ThinQ has done things a bit differently - as most LG smartphones for the past couple of years, if you remember the modular G5 and the V-series with the secondary screens - so the device might just be the breath of fresh air the Korean company needs right now. Probably the main feature that wins those 60% of the votes is the screen....
