Here is Samsung’s ad for the Oscars featuring Issa Rae and Constance Wu

Samsung has released its latest television commercial on YouTube, one that is likely set to air during the 90th Annual Academy Awards on ABC this Sunday. The ad features two TV actresses: Issa Rae and Constance Wu throughout various scenes encouraging viewers to make anything, even "make something awkward". The ad, of course, shows off the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ in the gorgeous Lilac Violet color. Ironically, after saying "make something big" the kids reply with "but we don't have a budget" so the obvious response is "make something small". The irony comes when thinking about the...

Huawei P10 goes on pre-order at Vodafone UK, available on March 31

Over in the UK, Vodafone chose to be the first mobile network operator (of many) to officially commence pre-orders for the Huawei P10. The handset is being offered in black or silver only for now, despite the many color versions Huawei announced. Such an option would give you 24GB of data in the UK, 2GB of roaming data, along with unlimited minutes and texts both inside the country and while roaming. The cheapest monthly...

Car models range from Ford to VW to Kia to Honda to Volvo, and head units include Pioneer and Sony. Both Pixel 2 and 2 XL users are experiencing the...

Counterclockwise: revisiting Motorola’s iconic phones

Motorola is famous for making the first commercial cell phone - the DynaTAC. It also created the first ever flip phone, the Motorola StarTAC. The company has scored many more firsts in its 90 years of existence, enjoyed a golden age when it shaped the mobile phone market and eventually fell on hard times. The Timeport P7389 was the first phone with GPRS - that's the first modern mobile Internet standard (CSD was more akin to dial-up). The phone first connected to the net over the BT Cellnet in the UK, which was running hardware also built by Motorola (and Cisco). Motorola StarTAC...

Nokia’s maker closes a new funding round at $1 billion valuation

The press release still refers to HMD as a "start-up", though it is now also a unicorn. The Espoo, Finland-based company has raised $100 million in a funding round at a valuation of a cool billion dollars. The money came from multiple investors led by Ginko Ventures. The money will go to "strategic investments" and aggressively expanding the lineup of Nokia-branded phones. And that's the plan for this year, so we won't have to wait until 2019 for exciting announcements. HMD is not even two years old yet (it was founded on December 1, 2016), but in the fiscal year 2017 it posted...
