Nissan wants to fight texting while driving by throwing your phone in a cage

"19th century innovation with a 21st century application" is rarely a good way to start a pitch. And it's not even true - Nissan's idea is downright medieval. The car maker is proposing what is essentially a chastity belt to keep you from the temptation of using your phone while driving. A prototype armrest for the Nissan Juke is the most stylish Faraday cage we've seen yet. If you haven't heard the term, it's an enclosure that prevents wireless signals from getting in or out - no 4G, no Wi-Fi, no Bluetooth, nothing that can deliver or send a digital message between your phone and the...

Gionee M7 Plus leaks in renders and press images

This is our best look yet of the upcoming Gionee M7 Plus and it comes in the form of an official-looking render and two images of the phone in the wild on what looks like an ad shoot. The images don't give up any new information outside of the design - the same brushed metal body with an 18:9 screen as the Gionee M7. It doesn't look anything like the purported hands-on that surfaced at the beginning of this month. Yesterday the Gionee M7 Plus made a visit to AnTuTu and GFXBench and revealed its key specs. According to rumors the M7 Plus will become official on November...

According to Anshul Gupta, research director at Gartner, two factors led to the fall: the upgrade from feature phones to smartphones slowed down due to lack of ultra-low-cost devices and users deciding to choose a quality model and stick with it for a longer time before switching. "Moreover, while demand for high...

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 1000 chip may fight Intel in the ultrabook market

Yesterday we heard that Qualcomm is building a Snapdragon 850 chipset for ARM-powered Windows 10 laptops, but it won't stop there. The company is looking to hire people to work on Snapdragon 1000 chips, which will directly take on Intel's Core processors. As with the 850, they will use the larger physical size of laptops to push their TDP higher. A Snapdragon 845 tops out at around 5 W while the CPU of the 1000 chip alone will use 6.5 W. Taking the GPU into account, the final number will be higher. For comparison, a dual-core (quad thread) Pentium 4410Y is rated at 6 W and runs at...
