comScore US report says Android is still more popular than iOS

Samsung-vs-AppleComScore has finished tallying up the numbers for the first three months of 2015 and it has a few facts to share about the US mobile market. The data shows that over the said period 188.6 million people in the US were identified as owning a smartphone. This is a whopping 76.9% market penetration, which definitely gives a little perspective as to why tracking usage statistics is so important, especially in the fast-growing niche. (more…)

Android 5.1.1 update rolling out to Android One devices in India

androidoneThe Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update has started rolling out to Android One smartphones in India. The devices that are receiving the update include the Micromax Canvas A1, Spice Dream UNO Mi-498, and Karbonn Sparkle V – all of them currently run Android 4.4 (KitKat).

The over-the-air (OTA) update weighs in at around 11.8MB and carries a build number of LMY47V. If you haven’t received it yet, you can manually check for it by heading to Settings -> About Phone -> System Updates on your device. (more…)

Android 5.0 Lollipop’s battery issues are mostly Google’s fault, not Samsung

Samsung might have made a mistake putting rather small batteries inside the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, but it seems part of the battery issues users are facing – on both existing devices and the S6 duo – are because of issues on Android 5.0 itself. One of the biggest issues with Lollipop seems to be one that keeps the mobile data connection active far longer than it needs to be, something a lot of users have complained about over on the official Android Open Source Project issue tracker.
