ZenFone 3 and ZenFone 3 Deluxe surface renders

ZenFone 3Asus struck gold with the ZenFone 2, which despite its naming disaster and veritable model chaos managed to deliver big in the value department with powerful hardware and an affordable price point. Naturally, fans have been waiting anxiously for the Taiwanese giant’s next step since and by all accounts, it should come in the shape of the ZenFone 3.

We have already heard quite a bit about the handset, including some TENAA listings, talk of a fingerprint reader and a suggested May or June release frame. However, the Zenfone 3 is still quite illusive and we’re not even sure whether it will come alone or in the company of a Deluxe version. (more…)

Huawei Honor 5X coming to the US at the end of this month for $200

Huawei Honor 5XThe Huawei Mate 8 was the star of Huawei’s CES event, but the Huawei Honor 5X got an event of its own later on. It’s coming to the US at the end of this month at $200, available from Amazon, Newegg and HiHonor.

“Inspired by the shape and design of the famous Guggenheim Museum Bilbao,” the Honor 5X has an aluminum alloy body that has been polished by diamonds with ceramic coating brushed on using a special technique. That’s a premium manufacturing process on a surprisingly affordable phone.

The phone comes with a 5.5″ 1080p screen, an IPS LCD. Running EMUI 3.1 on top of Android 5.1 Lollipop, the 5X is powered by Snapdragon 615 with 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage (plus up to 128GB with a microSD card). (more…)

Xiaomi MIUI 7.1 to roll out starting tomorrow

MIUI 7.1Just over a couple of months after the MIUI 7 started rolling out, Xiaomi has announced that the latest iteration of its mobile OS – MIUI 7.1 – will begin hitting supported devices starting January 5.

Both global as well as China stable build will roll out tomorrow. Devices that will get the former include the Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi Note, Mi 4i, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi 2/Prime, Redmi 1S, Redmi Note Prime, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note 3G, and Mi Pad, while those getting the latter include Mi 3, Mi 4 3G/4G, Mi Note, Mi Note Pro, Mi 4c, Mi 4i, Redmi 1S, Redmi Note 3G, Redmi Note 4G Single SIM/Dual-SIM, and Mi Pad 1/2. Archos launches two new smartphone ranges: Power and Cobalt

Archos 40 PowerArchos has just announced two new smartphone series for this year. The Power range features phones with big batteries and long endurance, while the Cobalt lineup is all about colors.

The Archos 40 Power is an entry-level device with a 4-inch display of 480 x 800 pixel resolution. It’s powered by the Spreadtrum SC7731C chipset with a quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU clocked at 1.2GHz. RAM is a modest 512MB, while internal storage is 8GB, expandable via microSD. (more…)
