HTC U Ultra with Snapdragon 821, 5.7″ QHD display

HTC U UltraHTC just announced the U Ultra smartphone at a keynote filled with U puns. The personal touch is all over the place, with a brand new Sense Companion assistant taking center stage.

But before we try to make some sense out of this Sense Companion, let’s cover the best bit about the U Ultra – it’s covered in Sapphire glass. What Apple tried and couldn’t achieve (out of yield constraints, admittedly), HTC has done on its new flagship. Huawei announces P8 Lite (2017) to be with1080p screen and Kirin 655

huawei-p8-lite-2017Huawei P8 Lite (2017) is the latest smartphone unveiled by the Chinese manufacturer and is coming soon in quite a few European markets. This new Lite model is strangely named as a successor to the two-year-old P8 Lite even though it also improves on the P9 Lite.

The new P8 Lite (2017) packs a 5.2″ IPS display of 1080p resolution and comes wrapped into a nicely looking glossy shell. The design is unlike anything in the P8 and P9 series, but very similar to a few Honor handsets of late. (more…)

Second Android 7.0 Nougat beta build for OnePlus 3 is now out

OnePlus 3 5Today OnePlus is releasing its second open beta build of Android 7.0 Nougat for the OnePlus 3. The first testing Nougat release for this phone became available at the end of November, and now, a couple of weeks later, the Chinese company is already providing some improvements to the experience.

Officially called OxygenOS Open Beta 9 for OnePlus 3, the new Nougat-based firmware comes with support for expanded screenshots as well as a bunch of optimizations having to do with the UI in general, but also DPI settings and battery performance. The overall stability and performance of the OS have been improved too, and there are some unnamed “general bug fixes” implemented as well. (more…)

Samsung Galaxy S8 to be the first to adopt Bluetooth 5.0

Samsung-Galaxy-Note-7The Galaxy S8 rumors galore continues with yet another intel for the highly-anticipated flagship. Yet another report puts the latest Bluetooth 5.0 standard in the Galaxy S8. Bluetooth Special Interest Group, where Samsung is being a member, has certified the standard and is expecting the first devices to use it to come “within two to six months”.

The Galaxy S8 ex expected to be announced in the end of February and go on sale in March, so it sounds like the device may indeed make use of the new BT 5.0. The new standard allows for four times bigger range, twice faster speed, and eight times larger broadcast message capacity.
