Alcatel OneTouch joins the Windows 10 race with the Fierce XL

Alcatel onetouch joins the windows 10 race with the fierce xlAfter all the Pixies from yesterday, Alcatel OneTouch has now announced a different beast, the Fierce XL, running Windows 10. OK, “beast” might be an overstatement for a device, powered by a Snapdragon 210 chipset, but we’ll let it slide.

The Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL has a 5.5-inch display with 720p resolution, protected by Dragontrail Glass. The S210 packs a quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU, ticking at 1.1GHz, RAM is 2GB and internal storage is 16GB, microSD-expandable.

There’s an 8MP primary camera with an LED flash, with video capture oddly limited to 720p (the chipset itself is good for 1080p). On the front you get a 2MP selfie snapper.

The smartphone measures 151.9 x 77.8 x 9.4 and weighs a somewhat hefty 174g, for a plastic-built 5.5-inch device that is. And the weight is not due to battery capacity, as it’s only listed at 2,500mAh. Alcatel claims that’s good for 14 hours of calls, but the 3-hour charging time raises eyebrows.

The Fierce XL has all your basic connectivity needs covered, with quad-band 2G, triple-band 3G, and Cat.4 LTE over three bands. Only three, you say, but those are T-Mobile’s LTE bands in the US, where the Fierce XL is headed. There’s also Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, and GPS.

The Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL will be available starting later this month in Light Blue color only. Although no specific number has been quoted, the press release does say that the phone will be “affordably priced” and so it should, given the hardware.
