Nokia and Orange is working on 5G networks together

Nokia and OrangeNokia and Orange have partnered up to develop the future 5G mobile networks. Key updates include “Ultra Broadband” and Internet of Things support. Nokia’s infographic on 5G details the possibilities of a 5G network, which will go far beyond mobile phones.

Everything from smart clothes to road toll collection is on the cards. This approach will greatly increase the number of “users” on the mobile network, be they your smart fridge or a robot in an automated factory (Nokia expects billions of connections). This will be achieved with “Dynamic Network Slicing” which will allow the carrier to configure its networks for many various use cases and requirements and run them simultaneously on the same equipment. Xiaomi Mi Note 2 in Blue Coral color variant

Xiaomi Mi Note 255The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is currently only available in three colors (Black, Gold, and Silver), and three more will be added to the list soon given that the company showed off green, purple, and pink models at this year’s CES.

And now, it looks like there’s exists a seventh color option as well: Blue Coral. The new color has been spotted in some photos. (more…)

iPhone loses its top spot in China; Oppo R9 is the new king

Oppo R91Apple’s iPhone has been the top selling smartphone in China since 2012, but that’s no longer the case, as according to a new report from Counterpoint Research, it has been overtaken by Oppo’s R9.

The report notes that a total of 17 million R9 units were sold in the country last year, which translates into around 4% of the market share. In comparison, Apple managed to sell only 12 million units of the iPhone 6s, capturing 2% of the market. (more…)

vivo V5 PlusA couple of days ago we saw the then-unannounced vivo V5 Plus going up for pre-order prematurely in Malaysia, and today the new smartphone has been officially unveiled. The V5 Plus comes with many upgrades compared to the V5 from 2016, but what vivo seems to be most proud of is the dual front camera arrangement, with 20 MP + 8 MP resolution and “selfie softlight” flash.

The 20 MP snapper in there uses Sony’s IMX376 1/2.78″ sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 5P lens system, while the 8 MP f/2.0 camera captures depth information. This will make bokeh effects easily attainable, keeping faces sharp while blurring the background. Yes, just like what Portrait Mode does on the iPhone 7 Plus – but remember, this is the front-facing camera setup we’re talking about here. You can also refocus shots even after they’re captured, adding blurring effects wherever you want. (more…)

Samsung presents Galaxy C7 Pro

Galaxy C7 Pro1The leak saga about Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro is over – the device was officially unveiled at the Korean manufacturer’s website..

The Galaxy C7 Pro is built around a 5.7″ 1080p Super AMOLED screen and runs Android 6.0.1. Marshmallow on a 14nm Snapdragon 625 chipset. The octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU is running at 2.2 GHz, while available RAM is 4GB. (more…)
